About Luis P. Sanchez

Learn his story.

His Roots Luis P. Sanchez is the first-born son of parents who immigrated to the United States from Mexico. His parents, Amador and Josefina Sanchez, were poor and had a limited education, but they worked hard and taught their children to respect the laws and value the opportunities in the United States. They also taught their children, by their example, to be compassionate and to help the less fortunate. For Luis, the path to service and prosperity was in law and education. He put himself through law school by working in the insurance industry and then established his first private practice in 1983. In addition to earning his Juris Doctorate from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, Luis also earned a Master’s degree (LLM) in Business and Tax Law from McGeorge in 1990. He began teaching business and tax law while maintaining his private practice until 2006, when he retired his law practice to work full-time as an educational administrator, culminating in becoming president of two California Community Colleges (2015-2022) before returning to the practice of law. He now advises and represents individuals and organizations in the field of higher education, as well as other business and non-profit ventures.

His Passion

During his lengthy career in the community colleges, Mr. Sanchez was instrumental in collective bargaining on behalf of employees as well as on behalf of employers. His expertise at cultivating win/win solutions to thorny union negotiations proved instrumental in his ability to build a positive employee culture in the organizations he led. Now, through his affiliate organization, Avisan Consulting, he and his partners provide support to higher education institutions in collective bargaining, conflict resolution, and organizational climate repair.
Mr. Sanchez also maintains strong relationships within the community college world, and provides liaison services to universities and third-party service organizations seeking to navigate the sometimes labyrinthian nature of the community college world to secure stronger transfer enrollments, articulation agreements, or vendor agreements.
Additionally, his early work in the insurance industry led Mr. Sanchez to expertise in resolving insurance coverage disputes.
Finally, what Mr. Sanchez most loves doing is helping others turn their dreams into reality. Whether that is a student who wishes to transfer to a top university, an entrepreneur who wants to launch a new business, or a visionary who wants to change the world through a new non-profit entity, Mr. Sanchez loves nothing more than helping that client plan and implement a strategy toward success.
